The Engineering Department is a division of the Department of Engineering and Utilities, with offices located on the first floor of City Hall. The ten-person staff currently includes two licensed professional engineers, two engineering technicians, a two-person survey crew, and computer-aided design, inspection, and clerical staff.
The primary responsibility of the Engineering Department is to plan and maintain the City's infrastructure system, including streets, water, sanitary sewer system, storm sewer system, parking lots, bridges, dams, retaining walls, airport, and park facilities. The Engineering Department also provides technical support and responds to the needs of the Mayor and City Council and other City departments by scheduling and implementing activities that support the goals articulated by Mayor and Council. To achieve this, the Engineering Department prepares and updates various standards and specifications that affect the City's infrastructure. The majority of City projects are surveyed, designed, inspected, and administered with this in-house staff.
The Engineering Department Offices are the primary archival location of all City infrastructure records. All construction drawings and all document files are stored in the Department, as well as saved to microfilm and compact disk, which are stored within fire-proof cabinets.
